Cost of Living & Affordability

Groceries, housing, insurance, utilities — the cost of living in Jefferson County keeps
climbing, and too many families who do everything right are still falling behind. County
government can’t control the whole economy, but it can control one thing: whether it’s
part of the problem or part of the solution.
Here’s my commitment. I’ll treat your tax dollars the way I treat my clients’ money — as
if every dollar has to be justified. That means scrutinizing the county budget line by line,
questioning spending that doesn’t deliver clear value, and refusing to grow government
faster than families can afford. As a CPA, finding the difference between “we’ve always
spent it this way” and “this is actually working” is what I do.
I’ll also focus the county on the basics that make life more affordable: efficient core
services, smart use of existing dollars before asking for more, and policies that make it
easier — not harder or more expensive — to live and do business here. Affordability
isn’t a slogan for me; it’s a budgeting discipline, and I’ll apply it every single day.
